On behalf of the Organisers, prof. Nicola Fusco, prof. Antoine Henrot,
prof. Aldo Pratelli and prof. Juan Luis //Vazquez we are sending to the
former visitors of the Centro De Giorgi the announcement of the
intensive period on "Geometric and Analytic Techniques in Calculus of
Variations and Partial Differential Equations" to be held in Pisa from
June 1st to July 31st 2012 (please see the enclosure).
A number of participation grants are available for young mathematicians
upon selection. To ensure a selection on a larger basis, the
Organisers call for applications from prospective candidates and invite
senior mathematicians to encourage young researchers in this area to
apply. The deadline for applications is March 25th, but we
recommend candidates to submit the necessary documents reasonably in
advance. All information about application terms is available at

This research period will concentrate on the following
topics: Quantitative geometric and functional inequalities with
applications to the stability of solutions of variational problems and
elliptic differential equations. Existence and regularity of solutions
to optimal shape problems. Shape optimization and its connections with
geometric inequalities and spectral geometry. Bi-Sobolev mappings,
mappings of finite distortion, mappings with or without the N-property.
Extensions and approximations of bi-Sobolev mappings. Nonlinear elliptic
and parabolic equations, slow and fast diffusion. Entropy methods and
functional inequalities. Connections with geometry.
Four schools will be organised in the month of June and three workshops

THIRD ANNOUNCEMENT - FOURTEENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON HYPERBOLIC PROBLEMS (HYP2012)

The Fourteenth International Conference on "Hyperbolic Problems: Theory, Numerics and Applications" (HYP2012) will be hosted at the University of Padova, on June 25-29, 2012. The objective of this conference is to bring together researchers and students with interests in theoretical and computational aspects of hyperbolic PDEs and of related time-dipendent models in the applied sciences.

The conference will keep the traditional balance of the HYP series, blending theory, numerics and applications. Particular attention will be devoted to the following topics:

• Singular limits and dispersive equations in mathematical physics
• Nonlinear wave patterns in multi-dimensions
• Particle/molecular dynamics
• Theory and numerics of multiphases and interfaces

Proceedings. Plenary, Invited and Contributed speakers will have the opportunity to submit a paper for the conference proceedings, which will be published by the American Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS).

Jedna z předních francouzských univerzit Mines ParisTech má velice dobrou zkušenost s tříměsíčními prázdninovými praxemi studentů masterského studia v technologických firmách. Zájem firem o praxe je často větší než počet francouzských studentů, které škola může vyslat. Proto ve spolupráci s prof. Forestem z Mines ParisTech vznikla myšlenka pokusit se vyslat na tato volná místa naše studenty modelování. Jde o pokus pro odvážlivce. Hrubý nástin podmínek:

• dobrý prospěch, angličtina (znalost francouzštiny není podmínkou)
• uchazeč by sepsal o sobě informace přibližně takové jaké jsou požadovány pro Research in Industrial Projects for Students, Application Form, http://www.ipam.ucla.edu/programs/rips2012/
• v případě úspěšného jednání by se na základě smlouvy praktikant stal placeným zaměstnancem firmy po dobu tří letních měsíců (plat by měl stačit na pokrytí pobytových nákladů)

Dear Partners,


The 2012 Fluid2Bio Intensive Programme - If Fluid Dynamics turns to
Biology, organized by the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics of
the University of L'Aquila and funded by the Italian Lifelong Learning
Program agency,  is quickly approaching. We have now finalized the
structure of the programme, which will take place in L’Aquila during the
period 3 - 15 June 2012.
The lectures of the IP will take place at the Faculty of Sciences where
the Department of Pure and Applied Mathematics is located.
All the participants will be hosted in a neighbor village named Pizzoli,
located at 10km from L'Aquila, in the Gran Sasso National Park. It is a
very beautiful area, full of nature, surrounded by mountains.
In Pizzoli the Math Department has a new residence for erasmus  students
that is build taking into account antisismic criteria.
There are many buses connecting L’Aquila and Pizzoli every day and the
bus stop is very close to the student residence.

partner). The travel and the accommodation of the students and of the
speakers will be entirely supported by our funds.
We recall that only students enrolled at partner institutions and that
participate in the programme for the WHOLE PERIOD are financially
supported by the project.

We ask you to advertise the programme to MSC and PhD students at your
department.

The  registration page is ready. The students who want to participate
have to register and follow step by step the instruction at the
application web page.
Every Friday evening we shall collect the registered students and
evaluate  their data and accept their application. This process will
continue up to completion of the 25 available places.

Náplní diplomové práce bude modelování pohybu a deformací reálných objektů. Přesnost modelování není prioritou, důraz bude kladen na subjektivně realistický vizuální vjem z výsledku. Studované metody budou aplikovány na modelu nákladního automobilu vyvíjeného pro počítačové hry, nicméně jsou aplikovatelné i ve filmovém průmyslu, nebo v automobilovém průmyslu při modelování procesů prostřednictvím virtuální reality. Pro modelování pohybu objektů lze využít již existující knihovny na detekci kolizí a na modelování pohybu pevných i nepevných těles (např. knihovna Bullet). Model lze sestavit pomocí jednoduchých tvarů (koule, kvádr, atd.) s jejich přirozenými fyzikálními vlastnostmi a dynamiku modelu lze simulovat řešením příslušných diferenciálních rovnic se započtením vlivu vazeb mezi nimi. Výhodou takového přístupu je snadný vývoj modelu, relativní fyzikální přesnost simulace a přímočaré modelování reálných objektů. Nevýhodou tohoto přístupu je, že nepočítá s modelováním deformace povrchu objektu.

Jiné nástroje napak s modelováním deformací počítají. Jedním z přístupů je modelování celého objektu pomocí uzlů a jejich spojnic. Výhodou tohoto přístupu je možnost modelovat deformace a defekty a tím lepší vizuální vjem z modelu, nevýhodou je komplikovaný vztah modelu s fyzikálními atributy objektu.

Matematická část může být zaměřena buď na redukci fyzikálních modelů, nebo na rychlé řešení dynamických systémů. V každém případě bude třeba schopnost programovat. Je možnost i finanční podpory studenta.
