Summer School venue, accommodation and local transport

The SUMMER SCHOOL will be concerned with mathematical and numerical methods in fluid dynamics, structural mechanics and, particularly, the interaction of fluids and structures. This last is a relatively new, but extensively developing area having great importance from the standpoint of applications in science and technology. There will be a comprehensive series of lectures on the above subjects. The level will be appropriate for graduate students and young researchers.

The course fee is 30 Euros for the whole summer school. The accommodation (including breakfast) in the student dormitory located in the campus has been reserved for participants, the price is 15 Euros/day for double room shared and 25 Euros/day for single room. The course fee and the fee for the accommodation can be paid by cash at the registration desk after arrival

Limited financial support will also be available for graduate students and young researchers.

All cash payments will be carried out at the registration in the Czech currency, i.e., CZK. No other currency will be accepted. (There is a possibility to change money at the airport as well as at the railway stations in Prague.) The payments in CZK: Course fee: 1000 CZK, one night for one person in a double room including breakfast: 500 CZK, one night in a single room including breakfast: 850 CZK. It is also possible to pay for lunch and dinner.

Application Procedure for Financial Support

Applicants should submit a 1 page statement of interest (describing academic background and research interests) and 1 letter of reference either by e-mail:

Scholarships paying for accommodation, subsistence and travel may be awarded based on the merits of the application. Please, state as precisely as possible your request for return ticket traveling to Prague in Euro. Moreover, please indicate your age. A limited number of places are available. Application deadline is June 18, 2001 !!


Registration hours
On Saturday 18 August and Sunday 19 August the registration will be in the building A of the University Dormitory: Saturday: 14.00 - 20.00, Sunday: 14.00 - 20.00. The participants arriving before and after the registration will get the key from their room at the reception in the building B of the University Dormitory.

From Monday 20 August the registration office will be opened in the high glass building of the Faculty.

Average temperature in August is around 20 degrees C, mild and sunny with some occasional rain.

Visas are required for participants coming only from a few countries. In most cases a valid passport is sufficient. However, all participants are advised to check their specific travel documents requirements with either the Embassy or Consulate of the Czech Republic, or their travel Agent.

We recommend all participants to provide themselves by the travel and health insurance for their stay in the Czech Republic. It is not covered by the organizers.

Official Language
The official language of conference is English. It will be used for all printed materials, presentations and discussions.

Social Programme
The participants will have the opportunity to visit historical parts of Prague, one of the oldest and most beautiful European towns, full of romanesque, gothic and baroque churches, palaces and monuments. Furthermore, our social program also includes Welcome Evening and Farewell Evening.

Welcome Evening and Farewell Evening
A Welcome Evening will take place on Monday 20 August at 19.00 and the Farewell Evening will take place on Tuesday 28 August at 19.00 in the University Campus.
